Troubleshooting & Repairs

Finding the fault behind a dead circuit, a tripping breaker, flickering lights or a burning smell, then repairing it properly.

What this is

Troubleshooting & Repairs across the Treasure Coast

Troubleshooting is the skill the rest of the trade rests on. A breaker that trips every few days, half a house dark after a storm, lights that dim when the air handler starts, receptacles that quit in one room, a warm cover plate, a burning smell with no visible source. Each of those has a specific cause, and finding it takes a meter and a method rather than a parts swap.

We work the circuit in order: verify the service and grounding, load the circuit, isolate it section by section, and find the actual fault, whether that is a failed breaker, a loose neutral, a backstabbed receptacle that finally let go, a corroded splice in an attic junction box, or a nail through a cable behind drywall. That is how you avoid replacing a panel over a problem that lived in a bedroom outlet.

Anything that smells like burning, sparks, or leaves the house partly dead gets treated as an emergency, and we answer those calls 24 hours. Storm season here produces its own list: surge damage on the service, water in an outdoor disconnect, a lightning strike that killed everything on one leg.

You get the finding explained in plain language and the repair priced before we start, and the repair is made to meet or exceed N.E.C. standards rather than restored to whatever was wrong before.

The process

How this service actually runs

  1. 01

    Take the history

When it started, what runs at the time, what changed in the house recently.

  2. 02

    Test in order

Service, grounding, panel, then the circuit isolated section by section.

  3. 03

    Name the fault

You see what we found and the repair price before anything gets replaced.

  4. 04

    Repair and verify

Fixed to code, then loaded and retested so we know it actually holds.

Questions

Troubleshooting & Repairs questions we get asked

Not sure this is the work you need? Call and describe what is happening.

My breaker trips but nothing looks wrong.

That is usually a shared neutral, a failing breaker or a degraded connection under load. All three are findable in one visit.

I smell burning near an outlet. What now?

Turn that circuit off at the breaker and call us. That one is a 24-hour emergency, not a next-week appointment.

Do you charge to diagnose?

Diagnostic work is quoted before we start. Estimates on new installations are free.
